Bonnie Nolan
Dr. Bonnie Nolan, PhD, LCADC, obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Rutgers University and the UMDNJ School of Biomedical Sciences.
She served as a faculty member at Rutgers University for ten years before founding and managing a successful outpatient center for substance use disorders.
In 2016, she established the Addiction Services Division for the Woodbridge Township Health Department, which includes an Opioid Overdose Recovery Program with peer recovery coaches.
Dr. Nolan currently works in private practice as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor and a Certified Food Addiction Specialist. She provides mental health consulting services to Woodbridge Township and Middlesex County.
Dr. Nolan joined the clinical field to use her expertise to help those with addiction. She noticed her students’ interest in how addiction changes the brain and believed this knowledge could benefit patients with addiction. Understanding that recovery follows a clear process might give hope to those struggling, showing that change is achievable with proper tools.
Knowing that Food Addiction mirrors other addictions neurologically, Bonnie pursued certification in treatment for Food Addiction at the INFACT school. Among her peers, many were recovering from Food Addiction and shared stories as painful as those of drug abuse.
Moved by their experiences, she aimed to do more to raise awareness about their struggle. She was invited to the Food Addiction Institute’s board and is enthusiastic to collaborate on creating awareness, advocating for Food Addiction’s inclusion in DSM V for insurance coverage, and addressing issues like profit-driven use of addictive ingredients in food
