For years, Esther Helga Gudmundsdottir struggled with food addiction and obesity, a challenge that profoundly shaped her life. She reached a turning point after struggling for years with her food addiction by using a 12-step program to recover. Her recovery journey ignited a passion for helping others. Determined to provide a structured path to recovery, she founded the MFM Center in Iceland, one of the world’s first dedicated food addiction treatment programs. Since its inception, the center has guided approximately 3,000 individuals toward lasting recovery, offering them hope and the necessary tools to overcome addiction.
Grounded in the twelve-step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, the MFM Center takes a holistic approach to treatment, addressing the emotional, psychological, and physical aspects of food addiction. Recognizing the global need for specialized education in this field, Esther established the International School for Food Addiction Counseling and Treatment (INFACT). This pioneering six-month online program provides comprehensive, evidence-based training in diagnosing and treating food addiction. The curriculum, featuring lectures from esteemed experts, leads to certification from the European Certification Board and is recognized in the U.S.
