Secretary, executive committee
Rachel L. Shwalb, MSIS, Ed.M., is a research data manager in the Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. Rachel has been clean and sober since 1993. She has been abstinent from sugar, flour, and volume eating since 2003, and is maintaining a 90-pound weight loss. She credits the following with her success:
- 30 days in a treatment center for Food Addiction.
- Continued participation in a 12-step recovery program for Food Addiction.
- Continued work with a Food Addiction-savvy nutritionist.
Rachel had to take out a loan to pay for her 30-day stay in Food Addiction treatment in 2003, and the results convinced her that treatment should be funded by health insurance to help all Food Addicts who need the help. Her passion to help other food addicts aligns with FAI’s mission to promote treatment of food addiction as a substance use disorder.
